Andy Toole and the Robert Morris players expressed their desire for the UPMC Events Center to be packed and tonight they’ll get their wish.

Robert Morris University announced this morning that tonight’s NEC Title game against St. Francis (PA) will be played in front of a sellout crowd. This will be the second time this season that the UPMC Events Center has sold out. The other being the home opener vs. Pitt.

The first two games of the NEC Tournament were played in front of a half-filled building but tonight, they’ll be an overflow crowd of over 4,000 fans which is exciting for the administration at Robert Morris.

”RMU men’s basketball opened the brand new UPMC Events Center at our home opener with Pitt on national television to a capacity crowd, and we will end our home season at our conference championship game with a sell out on national television,” Robert Morris Athletic Director Chris King tells PSN.

“We have an opportunity to punch our ticket to NCAA March Madness in a playoff-type atmosphere, and I speak on behalf of the RMU university administration, RMU men’s basketball coaches and student-athletes, we are thankful to our season ticket holders, alumni, donor base and our student body for their support of our Colonial men’s basketball student-athletes and coaching staff.”

Tonight’s championship game might not be the only one hosted at the UPMC Events Center this week as the Robert Morris women’s basketball team are the top seed and favorites to qualify for the NCAA’s Women’s Tournament. The opportunity is there for this to be a magical first season in the Colonials new basketball home.

“The 2019-20 season has been a magical year for RMU Athletics, in particular, for our basketball and volleyball programs that compete in the UPMC Events Center,” says King. “We couldn’t have written a better script to host three conference championship tournaments as the #1 seeds for basketball and volleyball this season in the brand new UPMC Events Center.  We have received rave reviews on the new facility, atmosphere, and fan experience during game days, and this is only the beginning.”

“We want to finish this magical season as the NEC Champs in both men’s and women’s basketball, and punch our tickets to the NCAA March Madness and bring national visibility to this vibrant university and campus.”

Gates to UPMC Events Center open at 6 pm. The PEOPLES Gate and UPMC Gate lots will not be available for general public. Surrounding lots will be open to the general public free of charge. There will be a shuttle running to and from the Park And Ride behind Sheetz on Univ. Blvd. from 6:00pm – 7:30pm and then 9:00pm – 10:30pm.

If you’re heading to the game, Robert Morris is advising you to arrive early because it’s going to be a packed house.
