4-Star C Adama Sanogo Considering Pitt, Could Reclassify To 2020

Jeff Capel isn’t finished adding to this year’s recruiting class and is in the running for a highly rated big man.

Four-star center Adama Sanogo (Hillside, New Jersey) has narrowed his list of offers down to 10 and that list includes Pitt. The other nine finalists for Sanogo are UConn, Nebraska, Maryland, Memphis, Illinois, Seton Hall, Auburn, Louisville and Oklahoma State.

The intersting angle to this story is that Sanogo is currently in the Class of 2021 but Pittsburgh Sports Now has been told that he will likely be re-classifying to the Class of 2020.

Although it didn’t appear that Pitt was in the market to add a big man, Jeff Capel will not pass on the chance to add a Top 10 center and one of the Top 50 overall juniors in the country.

Pitt making Sanogo’s Top 10 shouldn’t be dismissed because the Panthers are a legitimate contender for him and are very likely to make another cut if he narrows that list down even further.

Capel along with assistant Tim O’Toole have been in on Sonogo for well over a year and PSN has been told that Capel really wants to land this potentially dominating talent.

In Sonogo, Pitt would be adding from “a dominating rebounder who will score around the basket,” according to a college basketball talent evaluator. Pitt could look at a future frontcourt of Sonogo, John Hugley and Justin Champagnie.

“Now, [they] can go to war with the big boys in the ACC,” the evaluator said.

Another positive factor for Pitt is that Sonogo is close friends with Pitt freshman Karim Coulibaly.

Look for Capel to have an upcoming FaceTime visit with Sonogo and his family.

Aside from Pitt, two other teams to keep an eye on in this recruiting battle are Maryland and Nebraska.
