Duquesne women’s basketball coach Dan Burt has landed a transfer from a major-conference program.
The Dukes announced on Wednesday that former Wisconsin guard Diamond Bragg has signed with the team. A 5-foot-9 guard from Camp Hill, Pa., Bragg will have to sit out the 2020-21 season and have two seasons of eligibility remaining for the Dukes.
Duquesne basketball on Pittsburgh Sports Now is sponsored by The Summit Academy: setting young men on the path to a better future.
“Diamond is a combo-guard who has good athleticism and skill, with a strong ability to drive the ball and see gaps in the half-court defense,” Burt said in a press release. “We have 100% faith and confidence in Diamond and what she brings to both the point guard and two-guard positions. She can run a team with a high degree of success, and will have her redshirt season to continue refining her 3-point range”
In her two seasons with the Badgers, Bragg played in 51 games, exclusively as a reserve, scoring 33 points.
At Camp Hill High School near Harrisburg, Bragg was an all-state selection and averaged 22.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 4.4 steals per game as a senior. She finished her high school career with 1,775 points and is the second-leading scorer in Camp Hill history.
Duquesne is scheduled to return four of five starters from 2019-20: Nina Aho, Libby Bazelak, Amanda Kalin and Laia Sole, but all four will be seniors in the 2020-21 season, leaving plenty of opportunities for Bragg when she becomes eligible.
The Dukes finished the 2019-20 season with a 20-11 record and a 9-7 mark in conference play. They lost to Fordham in the second round of the Atlantic-10 Tournament.
