Laurel Highlands two-sport freshman star Rodney Gallagher has been touted as a top basketball recruit for quite some time. Now, his football recruitment is rapidly heating up.

Gallagher received his second Power Five offer in as many days on Thursday, as Pitt football offered the standout Class of 2023 athlete, just one day after Penn State had done the same.

Gallagher already holds a basketball offer from Pitt head coach Jeff Capel, meaning the Panthers coaches are in the unique position of recruiting against one another when it comes to where Gallagher’s future lies.

A 5-foot-10, 150-pound point guard in basketball and a wide receiver and safety in football, Gallagher’s first offers came in basketball, when Illinois, Rhode Island and Pitt all reached out before the end of his freshman season.

“Coach Capel told me that the only two other freshman that he’s offered were Marvin Bagley and Harry Giles, both of whom are in the NBA,” Gallagher told Pittsburgh Sports Now after receiving his Pitt basketball offer.

In football as a freshman, Gallagher caught 25 passes for 491 yards, rushed 36 times for 392 yards and led Laurel Highlands with 10 total touchdowns. Willam & Mary extended an offer in January, with Penn State and now Pitt once again extending offers.

Gallagher was the second Class of 2023 football player to earn a Pitt offer on Thursday, following fellow two-sport athlete Ta’Mere Robinson of Brashear.
