Jeff Capel continued his run of virtual meetings with elite talent.
Days after meeting with 2020 5-star guard Karim Mane, Capel conducted a Zoom visit meeting with 2021 4-star center Adama Sanogo. This information was first reported by college basketball Insider Andrew Slater.
The native of Hillside, New Jersey is rated as one of the Top 50 juniors in the country and has been a player Capel and Tim O’Toole have been pursuing for over a year. Sanogo (6-foot-10, 230) is technically a junior but is expected to reclassify to the Class of 2020.
The Pitt staff ramped up their pursuit of Sanogo after losing out on Rice guard transfer Trey Murphy III. Capel never stopped recruiting Sanogo, but placed more emphasis on Murphy because he was making a decision before Sanogo.
PSN has been told that Pitt is one of five to seven teams that is pursuing Sanogo aggressively and that Capel’s recruiting pitch to the talented big man is being the center piece of this recruiting class and getting immediate playing time on one of the worst rebounding teams in college basketball. Pitt ranked 349th in the country in defensive rebounding.
One other thing that Pitt has in their pursuit of Sanogo is the strong relationship that he has with Pitt freshman Karim Coulibaly. Both players are from Mali.
Pitt still has two available scholarships and hopes to fill them with four-star Erie wing Will Jeffress and Sanogo or five-star Canadian guard Karim Mane.
