The Pitt women’s basketball team has officially signed New Mexico transfer Jayla Everett, the program announced on Wednesday.
Everett, a 5-foot-10 guard from St. Louis, will be eligible to join the Panthers in January of 2021 and will have the remainder of that season and one more in her time in Oakland.
“I am very excited about adding Jayla to our basketball team,” head coach Lance White said in a press release. “She is a dynamic player that will give us needed depth at the guard position. She will have an immediate impact on our team. I can’t wait for her to get here and start working.”
Pitt had already signed three high school players to its Class of 2020, giving White and company four total additions for the 2020-21 season. Everett will join recruits Tracey Hueston, Taisha Exanor and Liatu King.
Pitt graduated just one senior from its roster in sixth-year guard Aysia Bugg, and had one player leave via transfer in guard Kyla Nelson. The Panthers still have one scholarship open entering the 2020-21 season.
Pitt finished 5-26 overall and 1-17 in ACC play in White’s second season as head coach in 2019-20. The 5-26 record stands as the worst in the modern era of Pitt women’s basketball. Pitt has gone winless in conference play twice, in 2011-12 and 2012-13.
The Panthers started five first-time NCAA players, with junior college transfer Gabbie Green surrounded by four true freshmen.
After finishing in last place in the ACC, the Panthers shocked Notre Dame with an upset win in the first round of the 2020 ACC Tournament before losing to Georgia Tech in the second round.
