2021 DB Jalen Cheek Ready to Decide, Has Pitt in Top 3

Pat Narduzzi’s program has added four players in the last week, could they add another one in the next couple days?

2021 3-star defensive back Jalen Cheek (Atco, New Jersey) recently revealed his top three schools and also announced that he’ll make his college decision later this week. On May 1, Cheek (6’2”, 190) will decide between Pitt, West Virginia and Boston College.

Aside from those three schools, Cheek also received offers from schools such as Baylor, Maryland, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, Virginia and Virginia Tech so getting to this point was challenging.

”I had a lot of offers to choose from but I narrowed it down to three based on who kept in contact the most, who I communicated with the best, the defensive system I felt that I fit in with best and the coaches that I felt I had the best relationships with,” said Cheek.

In terms of Pitt, Cheek tells PSN that he’s getting recruited by Cory Sanders, who’s worked hard to get to know the talented defensive back.

”We talk almost every other day, either on the phone or text messages. We talk about their defensive schemes and talk about other things like Michael Jordan, LeBron James because it’s nice to talk about things other than football.”

”Talking with all these coaches is important because I need to have a good relationship with them and my family needs to know them because whichever school I pick is not only getting me but my family as well,” said Cheek.

Cheek is a versatile athlete. In fact, Pitt is talking to him about playing either safety or cornerback.

“The Pitt coaches like my aggression and my ability to come up and hit. They also like my length and ability to go up and get the ball.”

In terms of visits, Cheek has visited both Pitt and West Virginia in person and received a virtual tour of Boston College.

”In the end, I feel that these three schools are all good fits for me and places I could have good futures at both on and off the field. I don’t want to wait anymore and want to make my decision.”
