Pitt BB Recruiting

Jeff Capel Meeting Tonight With 2021 4-Star Center Gabe Wiznitzer

In order to replace Terrell Brown and also to add some more size and skill to their future frontcourt, Pitt will try and sign a center for their Class of 2021.

The Pitt staff will be speaking to a player tonight that certainly fits that description.

Jeff Capel will be conducting a Zoom meeting tonight with 2021 4-star center Gabe Wiznitzer (6’11”, 240) from Chatham, Virginia. Wiznitzer currently holds offers from Clemson, DePaul, George Washington, Iowa, LSU, Mississippi, Nebraska, Penn State, St. John’s, TCU and West Virginia.

Pittsburgh Sports Now caught up with Wiznitzer to get his thoughts on Pitt and what he expects out of the meeting tonight with Capel.

“I’ve been talking with Coach Brown pretty much since the fall last year,” Wiznitzer told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “He came in to see me at Hargrave Military Academy a couple of times, so I’ve talking to them for a while. They’re recruiting me for the 2021 class and have told me that they like my skill set as a big. They like the physicality that I play with and pretty much like my overall game as a big.”

Aside from producing offense from down in the paint, Wiznitzer tells me that he also has a game from outside and beyond the 3-point arc.

Wiznitzer is one of the many highs school athletes that’s had his recruitment impacted by COVID-19 because of not being able to be seen by coaches on the AAU circuit. Despite that, Wiznitzer is appreciative and excited by the recent run of offers that he’s received over the last month.

“Being at Hargrave really helped me to get exposure because a lot of coaches didn’t know who I was,” said Wiznitzer. “I also think that if I played AAU I would’ve gotten some offers earlier but I don’t know if it would’ve blown up so fast but I think I would’ve gotten a good bit of offers this spring and summer.”

Speaking of offers, Pitt hasn’t officially offered yet but Wiznitzer hopes that one comes this evening during his conversation with Capel.

“Honestly, I’m not sure if one will come tonight but it would be great if they did offer me. I think there’s a chance but I think the talk tonight will be more about them telling me about the Pitt program, showing me the facilities, find out more about me and their plans for the future. I’m not expecting one but it would be really exciting if I were to get one.”

This Kid’s skill set is way batter than T. Brown. He and Huhgley would make a very formidable front court. These two a long with what is there now, H2P.
