After Long Wait, Virginia 2021 LB Maurice Freeman Receives Pitt Offer

Maurice Freeman has always had interest in the Pitt football program.

The junior from Chesapeake, Virginia has visited Pitt, has spoken with members of the Pitt and has patiently waiting to receive that offer. That patience was rewarded on Wednesday night as Freeman received a call from Chris Beatty and got official word that his latest offer was from Pitt.

”I’ve actually known and been talking with Coach Beatty since he was with Maryland,” Freeman told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “It was kind of a surprise because I never thought I’d get the offer from Pitt. I’ve been talking to Coach Harley for about 2-3 weeks now but I never thought I’d get it.”

”When Coach Beatty texted me yesterday, he told me to call him and that’s when he told me about the offer. I was very excited because I’ve been waiting on Pitt for awhile now and that’s one I’ve been wanting. I visited them at their last spring game, that’s how long I’ve been wanting to get in with them.”

Freeman (6-foot, 195 pounds) mentioned a couple times that he never thought he’d get the Pitt offer.

”I was thinking since they never offered that maybe I didn’t fit their scheme or something,” said Freeman. “But when he offered, Coach told me they’ve been evaluating me for a while and that they’ve always liked my film. … Coach Harley has told me in the past how he likes how hard I come off the edge and the intensity in which I hit. They also like how I cover in space and that I’m someone that can play all over the field. I can play either linebacker spot because I can play outside or in the box.”

Freeman said that he’s noticed the success Pitt is having recruiting in his state of Virginia and that he’s grown up with Rodney Hammond and is close with Trevion Stevenson and Myles Alston.

”Their must be something good going on with Pitt because I see a lot of kids committing there recently from here,” he said. “It’s looking like they like a lot of Va. boys.”

Freeman also holds offers from Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Indiana and admits he was considering making a decision but Wednesday’s news may have changed things.

”I was thinking about committing in my moms birthday (August 1), so that was my goal. But with these recent offers I’m getting, (Pitt, Georgia Tech, Indiana) that’s changed things.”

When the recruiting restrictions get lifted, Freeman said that he wants to make another visit to Pitt.

Solid article and seems to REALLY like Pitt. Good offers too. Hopefully he keeps thinking about Pitt and Beatty works his magic.

It seems like pitt is making an effort to find better linebackers, which is the one area of the defense that is suspect at the present time. Too bad Johnson doesn’t have another year of eligibility.

Is there a guy on Pitts roster that you could see exploding onto the scene this year and becoming a star Out of the linebacker group Pitt has for next year, or do you think the 3 guys they have projected to start will get most of the playing time?
