Pitt will find out this Sunday if they’ll be adding another player to its Class of 2021.

Three-star linebacker Preston Lavant, from Crisp County High School in Cordele, Georgia, told Pittsburgh Sports Now that he’ll be making his college decision on Mother’s Day. Lavant will be choosing between Pitt, Louisville and Minnesota.

Pittsburgh Sports Now caught up with Lavant, who told us that COVID-19 was a major reason for making his decision this soon instead of later this summer when he originally planned on deciding.

“I think a lot of players in the Class of 2021 will agree with me that the pandemic has sped up the recruiting process for everybody,” said Lavant. “I know right now, more people are committing right now than in any other class. I think the coronavirus has played a big role with a lot of players because I know that I planned on committing in August right before my season started but I realized that I needed to speed things up.

“I wouldn’t say this process has been super stressful but it has been a little stressful as you have to think about making such a big decision because this isn’t a four year decision, I look at it as a life decision. I’m excited to make my announcement.”

Lavant is a talented athlete that’s been a priority for the Pitt staff for a long period of time and someone that’s multiple members of the coaching staff have been recruiting and trying to get him to Pitt. This attention from the Pitt staff has meant a lot to Lavant and shows him and his family how much they really want him.

“Pitt is someone that I’ve been talking with since the day they offered me,” said Lavant. “Almost everyday of every week, I get text messages, I get at least 3 phone calls from members of their coaching staff. I have so many of their coaches talking to me, the head coach, the DC, my position coach and other members. They just give me really good vibes.

“I talk most with my position coach, Coach Harley. I refer to him as my position coach because our relationship feels like it’s at the point like he’s already my coach. We have a really good relationship and he’s really cool and an easy guy to talk with.”

Lavant (6-foot-2, 200 pounds) said that Pitt is recruiting him as a middle linebacker and love this athleticism. He also mentioned that their attacking style of defense is another thing that’s attractive about Pitt.

“Making a decision on Mother’s Day is one of those dates that people were telling me to do it on,” Lavant said. “In my head, I couldn’t come up with a good date to do it because I was just going to pick a random day but after people mentioned that day, I though it would be cool and it was the day I decided on.”

Now the question is, will Lavant end up selecting Pitt, Louisville or Minnesota?
