Twitter Reaction To Pitt Choosing To Not Play Duquesne Again
For the second consecutive season, Jeff Capel has decided not to have Pitt take on Duquesne in the annual “City Game.”
Last season, Pitt cited their game vs. Robert Morris as a reason for not playing but, with that not being an obstacle, Pitt still has decided to pass on playing the game. No one from Pitt has commented on this story but Duquesne AD Dave Harper released a statement expressing disappointment over Pitt’s decision, especially with Duquesne offering to play the game at The Pete.
This story has become a big story on Twitter and here’s some of the reaction we’re seeing.
My personal feeling being a die hard Pitt fan is I really don’t care. Would it be nice?, sure but I don’t care. I do think we need a better explanation cause the one we got was garbage. I don’t care about playing creepy valley in 🏈 or the dukes in 🏀.

They sound like the snobs to the east. Did the same to WVU. https://t.co/QbMsWUcMDE

It’s pretty lame to complain that PennState won’t schedule us in football and then turn around and refuse to schedule Duq. Lame.

Pitt is the bottom of the dumpster in the ACC and now they are too afraid to play Duquesne. What’s their ooc schedule gonna look like? How much do they need to pad their record before they go to conference play? https://t.co/pRKPDDT71L

This might be worse than Penn State not wanting to play Pitt in football https://t.co/9JZx9y9p2R

Good point, well except Duquesne's net ranking this year was higher than Miami, Pitt, Wake Forest and Boston College and only two spots worse than Virginia Tech's and that is a third of the ACC…… https://t.co/ZMIuVDinEO

Ok I couldn’t bite my Twitter tongue any longer.
Pitt has played DuQ through decades of Duquesne’s tragic past….
The matchup was never an issue for them UNTIL Duquesne became a legitimate contender.
Weird timing…. 🤷🏼♀️
At least someone’s not sleeping on the Dukes! 😂

Absolutely agree. Dukes should roll over teams next year. Pitt knows it. Knew it last year. https://t.co/sswTmB1XbJ

Let's be honest: Duquesne is getting better. Pitt isn't, not really. Pitt is scared to play Duquesne.

I’m assuming there’s a reason deeper than the surface of this statement. I want to play them but this isn’t new to college athletics in the slightest. https://t.co/arMQ0VkfK1

@Pitt_MBB y’all sweet but I understand https://t.co/ew9vulF0qN

In a time where teams are looking for games that require less travel it’s a surprising move.

Bad look Pitt https://t.co/DgYE2CKlB2

Duquesne’s program starts to show improvement & win & now Pitt doesn’t want to play the city game? I guess to hell with what Pittsburgh hoops fans would like to see. Bad look for Pitt to not want to play a game that should be played every year! https://t.co/qHfTGegAJn

Afraid of a little competition now that the Dukes are on the rise???? @Pitt_MBB https://t.co/lkX33ewR7I

Duquesne won’t play Robert Morris anymore after losing 7 of 8 so yeah bunch of hypocrites
— Bob Larson (@Colonials9rings) May 14, 2020
CAPEL can play whomever he wants…. I’m just a PITT fan that thinks they should play Duquesne…many agree with my position, many agree with yours…. I just enjoyed the tradition and think he looks like a coward not playing them… no biggy. Just my opinion
— Greg R (@grrib0404) May 14, 2020
Not true. Pitt would beat them by 20 next year. Please sir.

what a joke. https://t.co/Un8Q7agrqc

Luckily, Pitt's in the ACC where they get enough opportunities for better competition by playing teams like UVA, Duke, FSU, Louisville, NC State, UNC, Syracuse, Miami, GT, Clemson, and others.

A ton of people seem upset about this. I am not that mad about it. If they would play a team every year I’d rather it be WVU https://t.co/nQHzE4JjVS

Duquesne has a much improved program, and I respect that. However, Pitt has NCAA tourney aspirations for the near future, and a conference schedule that features many elite programs. They aren't in the position to take any unnecessary risks
— Jack Loeffler (@_hi_its_jack) May 14, 2020
I don’t really care that much about the City Game, but I can tell you what I absolutely don’t care about at all…. Pitt vs. Southeastern Louisiana Tech or whoever the hell else they plan on playing instead. Those games are truly the no-win scenarios.
— Mike Ross (@IronCity_Mike) May 14, 2020

Terrible. Just really bad. Pitt breaks your heart every which way. Pitt should play PS, WVU Duquesne and RM every year. Come on. Get it together.
