Defensive tackle is a position that Pitt didn’t address last year and the same goes to this point for their Class of 2021.

The Panthers defensive front lost Amir Watts from last year and starters Jaylen Twyman and Keyshon Camp will graduate following the upcoming season.

The depth needs to be rebuilt so Pitt will no doubt be adding a couple defensive tackles in the 2021 recruiting class and a candidate emerged Friday night.

After talking with and recruiting him for months, Charlie Partridge extended an offer to Zyin Thomas (6’2”, 250) from Atlantic High School in Delray Beach, Florida. This wasn’t just any offer for Thomas because it was his first Power 5 offer.

“When I first heard, I was highly excited and shocked when my coach told me I had an offer from the University of Pittsburgh,” Thomas told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “I’ve been talking with a Coach Charlie on an everyday basis but I was shocked.  I just couldn’t wait to tell my grandma, who started crying when I told her which was a very big deal. I’m just very happy right now as I strive for greatness.”

”Prior to today, from our conversations I was thinking it was leading up to an offer but I wasn’t totally sure. They first started texting me around late February when he told me he enjoyed my film and showed it to the coaches.“

Thomas is a smaller defensive tackle but Partridge knows the type of players that fit and could excel in his scheme and thinks Thomas is one of those players.

”Pitt says that they like my aggression off the line and my ability to change direction on certain plays and the way I use my hands. They told me that they believe I’d be a great addition to their organization,” said Thomas.

Prior to Friday, Thomas held offers from Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Toledo and Georgia State but they news from Pitt might have changed his recruiting totally.

”I’m definitely highly considering going up there to visit,, that’s really the top school that I want to see right now,” said Thomas. “I’m really liking everything I see and hear about Pitt and I can’t wait until all of this stuff is over with so I can come up to take a visit so I can check the school out.”

In case you’re wondering, Thomas tells PSN that, although he’d like to, a visit doesn’t have to happen first if he ends up deciding to commit to Pitt.
