Former Pitt athletes Ian Troost (football, 2017) and Jordan Fields (track and field, 2016-20) wrote an op-ed that was published at Pittsburgh Sports Now on Monday, calling for the university and athletic department to do more and put a course of action behind its public words in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Op-Ed: Letter to Pitt Athletics from Former Athletes
Late Monday, Pitt released the following response through an athletics spokesperson:
“This letter reflects the true spirit of Pitt. Throughout our history, Pitt people have always worked to create a better world, a better society, a stronger tomorrow. This is important engagement and can serve as a catalyst for the change we need and are striving for. We are looking forward to more communication and working together on these crucial issues with our student-athletes, coaches, staff and university community.”
