Pitt football recruiting news has been scarce over the last couple weeks but you can bet the coaches are still working to add to their current recruiting class and build relationships with underclassman.
The only two positions that Pitt hasn’t addressed in their Class of 2021 are tight end and defensive tackle, but they seem to be making progress at one of those positions.

At the beginning of the month, Pitt extended an offer to 2021 tight end Rhett Guidry and have remained in contact with him since. In fact, the two sides recently conducted a Zoom meeting led by tight ends coach Tim Salem that left Guidry impressed.
Pittsburgh Sports Now talked with Guidry Tuesday night about his impressions and where Pitt currently stands with him.
“I appreciate Coach Salem doing that (Zoom) and like you said, it’s not the same as going up to the campus and seeing everyone and everything, but he and Pitt are putting forth the effort and I appreciate that,” said Guidry. “We met with Coach Salem, Pitt’s strength and conditioning coach, Pitt’s dietician, [offensive coordinator] Whipple and Ray Jones, one of Pitt’s business professors. We had some good talks and I was very impressed with Pitt and how much money goes into everything they do.
“Coach Whipple told me that we might get on another Zoom call and looking over plays in their playbook and how I’d fit into their offense.”
The native of Louisiana learned many things about Pitt and left particularly impressed with one aspect of the football program.
“When I had the talk with the strength and conditioning staff and dietician, the amount of things that go into everything that takes place off the field,” Guidry said. “The diets like what you’re eating and the healing and recovery, it’s just impressive to see and learn about that and how they pay attention to the small things that most organizations don’t pay attention to.”
Guidry is currently on vacation in Arizona and found out last night about a new offer and interesting opportunity that’s been presented to him. Will this impact his thoughts on Pitt?
“I actually just got an offer to Louisiana-Lafayette and they offered me for the 2020 season so that’s definitely weighing on my mind. But, Pitt is definitely a place that I’m highly considering and leaning towards them heavily. I would definitely have a lot more quick learning to do at Louisiana-Lafayette as opposed to at prep school. That’s definitely a con but the pro is that I’d be playing in college. I’m thinking about it but I’m really thinking heavily about Pitt.”
