Mic Drop: The Backyard Brawl is the Perfect Rivalry

While there are many great rivalries across college sports, only one is perfect. Mike Asti says the the rich history, the fact they are similar programs, the close proximity all help to make the Backyard Brawl between Pitt and WVU a perfect rivalry and both fans bases should be glad the leadership at both schools understands the importance of the rivalry.

The rivalry has gone beyond the bounds of sports competition. It is an embarrassment. I sat in the stands last year at Pitt. When the obscene cheers started, I yelled at some of the WVU students around me to stop. They looked about and stopped for a couple of minutes, and then continued with their, “Eat Shit Pitt!” cheers. Oh well, what do you expect from West Virginia fans? The goal in these games is no longer to win but to humiliate the other team and fan base. Would WVU fans act like this to other teams? Who cares!! Right, it was echoed all over the hall.
When I went to Pitt I was told to never go to Morgantown alone. As we drove into town for a Basketball game kids ran from the sidewalks to bang on our hood. At the game people threw things from the stands at a bad call by the refs.

BS, that’s the mentality of their supporters.
I detest them so much that I gave up my tickets for the game.
It’s all about the money.
