The ACC will not allow fall sports competitions to being before Sept. 1, due to continuing concerns about returning to play during the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference announced on Thursday.
The decision will not impact football, as the ACC’s first scheduled football game is for Sept. 2, when NC State visits Louisville.
It would impact the usual timeframe for the start of soccer, cross country and women’s volleyball seasons, but none of the ACC schools have released schedules for any of those sports at this time.
Pitt’s women’s volleyball team played three matches in August last year. The men’s soccer team played two exhibition and one competitive match. The women’s soccer team played two exhibitions and three competitive matches last August.
The teams will be still be able to practice during August.
