Gateway’s Derrick Davis has an offer list from some of most impressive college programs in the country so making a final decision won’t be easy. The four-star athlete officially started the process of coming to a final decision by narrowing his list of over 30 offers down to seven schools.
Davis, who’s rated as one of the Top 100 players in the Class of 2021, announced on Twitter that his 7 finalists are Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt and USC.

While these are the teams Davis plans to focus on, it’s been widely speculated that Ohio State and Penn State are the heavy leaders for his services. Former Gateway head coach and current Penn State assistant head coach Terry Smith is a big factor and reason for the Nittany Lions ranking so high.
When it comes to the hometown school, three things have factored into Pitt making the initial cut: 1) Pat Narduzzi has developed a strong relationship with Davis since being the first program to offer him as a freshman. 2) the chance to play with fellow WPIAL stars Nahki Johnson, Dayon Hayes and possibly Elliot Donald. 3) the opportunity to star and be a major factor in Pitt getting to be next level.
He’s heading to Penn State. Next.
He’s said he’s a Bama fan so it’s surprising they didn’t make the cut. It’ll be tough to overcome the Terry Smith factor but you never know.
Just make it a top 5 or 6 and leave us out.
I just think its bullshit that pitt has to continuously fight to keep these local kids here we have more success in fla, ga and va than we do in our own backyard, I’ve been saying this since narduzzi got hired ,that he needs a local ace recruiter that knows the wpial and the surrounding area gotta keep most of the 4 star guys here ,if not pitt will nothing more than a middle of the road acc team
your comment would be valid if the WPIAL was what it once was and not what it is today. Yes, this class has some defensive gems in Donald, Johnson, Ford and Davis, but that is far from the norm. There is MUCH more talent in other parts of the country.
If Donald picks Pitt, Davis may surprise and pick the Panthers also. This is a huge opportunity for Davis to be transformative at Pitt similarly to Tony Dorsett when he chose Pitt in ’73 — and led his hometown team to a National Championship victory. College football was in shock while TD picked up his Heisman Trophy.
