2020-21 COVID-19 Collegiate and High School Athletics Cancellations, Postponements

DIVISION I FBS

Pitt/ACC

• July 21 Syracuse will play its home season without fans in the stands after an order by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Syracuse is scheduled to visit Pitt on Nov. 28

• July 17 The CAA has canceled fall sports for 2020, meaning that Pitt’s game scheduled for Sept. 17 at Richmond is off.

July 10 ACC commissioner John Swofford said the league will decide on fall sports in “late July.”

July 9 The ACC will include Notre Dame in its 2020 plans if it moves to an all-conference schedule, Swofford said. Pitt is scheduled to host Notre Dame on Oct. 17.

• July 9 The ACC announced it will push back the start of all fall sports to Sept. 1. The move impacts cross country, soccer and volleyball teams, though Pitt did not have any schedules released.

Penn State/Big Ten

• July 9 Will play non-conference only schedule for football. Penn State had games vs. Kent State on Sept. 5, at Virginia Tech on Sept. 12 and vs. San Jose State on Sept. 19 cancelled.

West Virginia/Big 12

• July 10 Big 12 commissioner Todd Bowlsby said the Big 12 has developed conference-only schedules, but said it is too soon to make a decision on the football season. 

• July 9 WVU’s scheduled Sept. 19 home game against Maryland was canceled by the Big Ten (see above).

Elsewhere

• July 12 The MAC will delay the start of its fall sport season to Sept. 3, primarily impacting cross country, field hockey, soccer and volleyball.

• July 12 The Pac-12 will play conference-only for football, soccer and volleyball this fall.

DIVISION I FCS

Duquesne/Atlantic-10

• July 17 The Atlantic-10 has postponed fall sports for 2020 and hopes to play them in the spring.

Robert Morris/Horizon League

• July 16 The Horizon League will delay the start of its fall sports schedules.

• July 14 RMU will try take advantage of other schools making early cancellations. The Colonials have scheduled a Sept. 26 non-conference game at Hawaii after Fordham and three Pac-12 schools (Arizona, Oregon and UCLA) backed out of scheduled games against the Warriors.

Elsewhere

• July 20 The SWAC has postponed fall sports and plans to play them in the spring.

• July 17 The non-football America East conference has postponed fall sports with the hopes of playing in the spring.

• July 16 The MEAC has canceled all fall sports for 2020.

• July 13 The Patriot league has suspended all fall sports for 2020, excluding Army West Point and the Naval Academy, which compete in the Patriot League in sports other than football.

• July 13 Hampton, which plays in the Big South Conference, has canceled fall sports for 2020.

• July 8 The Ivy League has suspended all fall sports for 2020.

DIVISION II

Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference

July 15 The PSAC (Cal U, Clairion, Edinboro, IUP, Gannon, Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock) has postponed all fall sports.

Elsewhere

• July 9 The CIAA, which includes Lincoln in Eastern Pennsylvania, has canceled fall sports for 2020.

•  July 2 The SIAC, with teams from Ohio to Georgia, has canceled fall sports for 2020.

DIVISION III

Presidents Athletic Conference

July 8 The PAC (Bethany, Carnegie Mellon, Case Western Reserve, Geneva, Grove City, St. Vincent, Thiel, Washington & Jefferson, Waynesburg and Westminster) will not play non-conference games this fall.

July 8 Carnegie Mellon will not compete in any fall sports. CMU plays football in the PAC and other sports in the University Athletic Association.

July 8 PAC/UAA member Case Western Reserve will not participate in fall sports.

Allegheny/NCAC

• July 8 The PAC non-conference cancellation caused Allegheny to lose its Sept. 5 game at Thiel.

July 8 NCAC member Oberlin has has cancelled fall sports. Allegheny was scheduled to host Oberlin Nov. 14.

Elsewhere

July 24 The Ohio Athletic Conference, including Baldwin Wallace, John Carroll, Marietta, Muskingum and Mount Union in Eastern Ohio, will suspend all sports activities through the end of the year, per report.

July 24 The Middle Atlantic Conferences, which include Albright, Alvernia, Arcadia, Delaware Valley, DeSales, Eastern, King’s, Lebanon Valley, Lycoming, Messiah, Misericordia, Widener, Wilkes and York in Eastern Pa. along with schools in Maryland and New Jersey, have suspended fall sports with the intention of playing in the spring.

• July 21 The ODAC, with 15 teams in Virginia, has postponed athletics for the remainder of 2020 and will attempt to play full seasons in the spring.

July 16 The Southern Athletic Association, with eight teams in the Mid-South, and two more affiliate members for football, has postponed fall sports for 2020, with the hope of playing in 2021.

• July 16 The MIAC, with 13 teams in Minnesota, has canceled fall sports for 2020.

July 15 Norwich University, a Division III military academy in Vermont that plays in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, has canceled fall sports for 2020.

July 15 The SCAC, with nine teams primarily in Texas, has canceled fall sports for 2020. The conference does not sponsor football.

• July 7 The Centennial Conference, which includes Bryn Mawr, Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall, Gettysburg, Haverford, Muhlenberg, Swarthmore and Ursinus in Eastern Pennsylvania, has canceled fall sports for 2020.

HIGH SCHOOLS

• July 20 California has moved all fall sports to the early spring.

July 16  New York state will move all fall sports to the spring.

July 15 Virginia high schools will not play football this fall, with options of cancelling the season and postponing to fall and winter still on the table.
