The Colonial Athletic Association is expected to announce on Friday that it will not play league football games this fall due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, according to multiple media reports.

The CAA reportedly will allow its members to play their seasons as independents. The league has 12 football teams, with full members Delaware, Elon, James Madison, Towson and William & Mary joined by associate members Albany, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Richmond, Stony Brook and Villanova.

Pitt is scheduled to play Richmond on Sept. 19 at Heinz Field. According to Richmond.com, the Spiders are not expected to attempt to play during the 2020 fall season.

The CAA is the fourth FCS league to cancel its 2020 season, joining the Ivy League, MEAC and Patriot League.

Wasn’t this game considered cancelled a week ago when the ACC cancelled non-league games?
