College football players will he permitted to wear uniform No. 0 this year and a Pitt Panther will make the switch.
In the off-season, the NCAA said No. 0 can be worn starting in 2020 after ruling that teams can no longer have duplicate numbers on the same side of the ball.
Redshirt senior safety John Petrishen and redshirt freshman defensive tackle Calijah Kancey both wore No. 8 in 2019.
Pittsburgh Sports Now has confirmed that Petrishen has decided to wear No. 0 his final season.
The former Central Catholic star joined Pitt at the beginning of last season after leaving Penn State as a graduate transfer.
Petrishen is expected to compete this upcoming season for playing time in Pitt’s defensive sub-packages.
Petrishen is believed to be the first player in modern Pitt football history to wear No. 0
