Robert Morris football has lost another opponent from its 2020 schedule.

The Pioneer Football League announced on Monday that it will not be playing non-conference games as part of a modified 2020 schedule in order to help mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus that has caused the COVID-19 pandemic.

PFL member Dayton was expected to host Robert Morris on Sept. 19. That game has now been cancelled.

It’s the second hit RMU’s schedule has taken in advance of the 2020 season, which will be played as an independent after leaving the Northeast Conference on July 1.

Former NEC opponents Merrimack and Bryant had previously dropped what were supposed to be a conference games. RMU had been set to host Merrimack on Oct. 31 and play Bryant in Smithfield, Rhode Island on Nov. 7.

The Colonials have added a game at Hawaii on Sept. 16 since originally releasing their schedule. Their 2020 schedule now sits at nine games:

Sept. 5 vs. VMI
Sept. 12 at Bowling Green
Sept. 19 OFF
Sept. 26 at Hawaii
Oct. 3 vs. St. Francis
Oct. 10 at Duquesne
Oct. 17 at Long Island University
Oct. 24 vs. Wagner
Oct. 31 vs. OFF
Nov. 7 OFF
Nov. 14 vs. Central Connecticut State
Nov. 21 at Sacred Heart

After playing the 2020 season as an independent, Robert Morris will join the Big South Conference for football in 2021. The Colonials joined the Horizon League in other sports.
