The Pitt baseball program is making news as head coach Mike Bell has announced the hiring of Matt Reida as an assistant coach.

Reida joins the Panthers program after spending the last two years as a volunteer assistant at Alabama. Prior to that, Reida worked as the recruiting coordinator and as an assistant coach at Xavier and with Indiana during the 2016-17 season.

Bell indicates that Reida’s role with Pitt will he as an offensive coach along with in the recruiting department.

”We are extremely excited to welcome Matt Reida to the University of Pittsburgh baseball family,” Bell said. “After conducting a national search, it was obvious we hit a homerun with a rising star in the coaching industry. Known for his elite recruiting and dynamic development of student-athletes, Matt’s past experience and coaching stops have prepared him for this next step. There’s no doubt in my mind, he will be a big assist to our program as we continue to build and pursue our Gold Standards.”

Reida’s on-field resume includes playing for Kentucky from 2011-14 and a brief stint in the Tampa Bay Rays organization.
