Pitt’s Week 1 opponent Austin Peay will help kick off the 2020 college football season this Saturday with a primetime broadcast on ESPN.
Austin Peay will play a Week 0 game Saturday night against Central Arkansas, in the FCS Kickoff, which is held at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama. The game will be broadcast at 9 p.m., with ESPN’s Matt Barrie and Mike Golic, Jr. commentating.
The Governors and the Bears will battle in front of an undivided audience, as they are the only Division I teams playing a Week 0 game.
Pitt just finalized its plans to play Austin Peay on Tuesday. The Governors are replacing Miami University (Ohio) on Pitt’s schedule, who postponed their season to the spring along with the rest of the MAC.
Austin Peay and Central Arkansas are among a number of FCS teams that have decided to play their non-conference games this fall, even though their conference schedules and the NCAA FCS postseason have both been postponed until the spring.
Pitt is scheduled to start its ACC schedule the following week, with a home game against Syracuse on Sept. 19.
