Pitt athletic director Heather Lyke will be part of the committee to find the ACC’s next commissioner.

The conference announced a 20-member search committee on Thursday that includes five active athletic directors, including Lyke, Duke’s Kevin White, Miami’s Blake James, Syracuse’s John Wildhack and Virginia’s Carla Williams.
The search advisory committee will be led by co-chairs Nathan Hatch and Rev. John Jenkins, who are the presidents at Wake Forest and Notre Dame, respectively. The committee also includes five student-athletes, two other university presidents, one chancellor, three senior woman administrators and two faculty representatives.

The recommendation of the committee will have to be approved by the full ACC Board of Directors.

“The Search Advisory Committee will play an important role in helping us define the qualities we are looking for in our next Commissioner,” said ACC Board chair and Syracuse president Kent Syverud. “By bringing together a diverse group of people from across the ACC to inform our process, including our student-athletes, we will position ourselves to find highly qualified candidates, and ultimately select the right Commissioner to lead the conference into the next era.”

The committee will be helping to replace John Swofford, who is retiring in June 2021. Swofford has been the commissioner of the conference since 1997, when he replaced Gene Corrigan as the conference’s fourth commissioner.
