Pitt Extends Offer to 2022 5-Star Wing Dariq Whitehead

The Pitt men’s basketball staff has been busy over the past few days with offers to upcoming juniors, the latest being one of the top players in the country.

2022 5-star wing Dariq Whitehead confirmed to Pittsburgh Sports Now that he’s received an offer from Jeff Capel and Pitt. Whitehead (6’6″, 190) is rated as one of the Top 10 players in the Class of 2022 by both Rivals and 247 Sports.

Whitehead is a native of Newark, New Jersey but transferred to Montverde Academy in Florida last December. That’s also the school that 2022 4-star guard Jalen Hood-Schifino, who recently de-committed from Pitt, recently transferred to for his last two seasons of prep basketball.

Whitehead’s early list of offers includes Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Maryland, Memphis, Oklahoma State, Rutgers, Texas and Texas A&M.

The stock and potential on Whitehead is so high that he’s already being talked about as a player that could bypass college and go directly to the NBA. If he does choose to attend college, he’s likely to be a one and done player.

Whitehead also has good bloodlines as he’s the brother of current Carolina Panthers linebacker Tahir Whitehead.
