Rashad Weaver was back in action for Pitt at Heinz Field on Saturday in the Panthers’ 21-10 win over Syracuse and was named Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week for his strong performance.
Weaver was arguably Pitt’s best defensive lineman in 2018, but missed all of 2019 with a training camp knee injury and Weaver’s 2020 return was delayed by COVID-19 precautions that held him out of the season opener.
Saturday, Weaver didn’t miss a beat in his return to play. He recorded team-high five tackles, two assists and two sacks. Weaver and the entire Pitt defensive line put pressure on the the Syracuse quarterbacks, sacking them a total of seven times on the day.
The last Pitt player to win the Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week award was Aaron Donald in 2013.
The Panthers will return to action next Saturday for a noon kickoff against Louisville.
Well deserved, Rashad!
Hail to Pitt Defense!
