Another top WPIAL program has had to scrap their upcoming game because of COVID-19 issues.

Clairton (3-0) announced Wednesday that their game on Saturday against Bishop Canevin (2-1) will not be played, because of several players showing COVID-19-like symptoms. If no one tests positive, Clairton would be able to return to action next week. If a positive test occurs, the Bears wouldn’t be permitted to play for two weeks.

Since neither team has an opening on their schedule, it’s unlikely that this game will be rescheduled. The question then becomes will the playoffs be impacted if this game isn’t played. Clairton is currently the top-ranked team in Class A.

Last week, the much-anticipated matchup between Gateway and Pine-Richland was canceled due to COVID issues within the Gateway team and Baldwin will return to action this Friday after missing the last two weeks’ worth of games.

Clairton will not conduct any practices until all symptomatic team members are checked out. If they all return negative, they would resume practice early next week for their next game against Imani Christian on Oct. 9.
