Pitt Opens as 5-Point Favorite at Boston College

Published

on

Pitt has opened as a 5-point favorite for this Saturday’s road game at unranked Boston College, according to BetOnline.ag.

The 3-1 Panthers’ hot start to the season was interrupted on Saturday with a one-point home loss to NC State. Pitt started its season with wins over Austin Peay, Syracuse and Louisville during a four-game homestand, but the Panthers are 0-2 against the spread.

Pitt lost outright as a two-touchdown favorite over the Wolfpack. The Panthers’ three-point win against the Cardinals resulted in a push. Pitt did not cover 20.5 points against the Orange and the opener against Austin Peay was taking off betting boards because the second half was played with just 10-minute quarters.

Boston College has started the season 1-2, with a road win at Duke and home loss to North Carolina sandwiching a non-conference home victory over Texas State.

The Eagles are 2-1 against the spread, winning outright as road underdogs against the Blue Devils and covering a 14.5-point line by losing the Tar Heels by just four. But they failed to cover a 21.5-point spread in a narrow victory over Texas State.

Saturday’s game will be played on ACC Network with a 4 p.m. kickoff. Boston College has not announced a policy for fans for this Saturday’s game. The Eagles’ previous two home games were played without fans.

The longtime conference foes have met just twice since 2004, with Pitt winning 30-20 in Chestnut Hill in 2014 and the Eagles returning the favor with a 26-19 win at Heinz Field last November.

Pitt was 3-2 in road games last season and 3-1 in ACC play. The Panthers have not won their first road game of the season since 2015, when they defeated Akron.
