Pitt Women’s Soccer Coach Randy Waldrum to Also Lead Nigerian National Team

Pitt women’s soccer coach Randy Waldrum has added another line to his business card.

Waldrum will be re-entering the world of International women’s soccer, as he has accepted a role as the head coach of the Nigerian women’s national team.

Waldrum’s role as the head coach of the Super Falcons will come in addition to his duties as Pitt’s head coach.

“I’m very excited to be appointed to coach the Super Falcons,” Waldrum said in a statement provided by a Pitt spokesperson. “I can’t wait to help them qualify for the World Cup. Also, I’d like to thank Heather Lyke for allowing me to do this and understanding the benefit for the Pitt women’s soccer program.”

He was previously the Nigerian squad’s technical director in 2017, before he took the job at Pitt. Waldrum was also the head coach of the Trinidad and Tobago women’s national team from 2014-16. During that time, Waldrum was also the head coach of the Houston Dash of the NWSL.

Waldrum has lead an impressive renaissance in Pitt women’s soccer. The Panthers have started the 2020 season with a 6-2 record and are nationally ranked for the first time in program history.

Pitt has already surpassed its win total from 2019, when the Panthers went 5-10-3. In Waldrum’s first season in 2018, they were 4-12-1, while he completely remade the roster with 11 first-year players.

They were joined by 17 more in the Class of 2019, including Amanda West, who leads the nation in scoring with seven goals.
