Pitt wrestlers Nino Bonaccorsi, Pittsburgh Wrestling Club members Luke Pletcher and Demetrius Thomas and Pitt alum Shelton Mack will compete at USA Senior Nationals this weekend in Coralville, Iowa.

Bonaccorsi is a Bethel Park native that wrestles at 184 pounds for Pitt. He’s entering his redshirt junior season after finishing the 2019-20 season with a 23-5 record and had qualified for the NCAA Tournament before it was canceled due to COVID-19.

Thomas wrapped his senior season with the Panthers this spring, going out as a two-time ACC heavyweight champion. Pletcher, a Latrobe native, joined the PWC and became a Pitt volunteer assistant this summer after graduating from Ohio State.

“I’m excited for all three of those guys to have the opportunity to compete this weekend,” said Pitt wrestling head coach Keith Gavin. “Luke has the goal of making the Olympic team this year, so it’s an important tournament for him. Demetrius also has international goals and is looking forward to competing at this level for the first time after having a lot of success for us in college.”

Mack will compete as the No. 6 seed at 57 kilograms. Pletcher is the No. 11 seed at 65 kg. Bonaccorsi is the No. 13 seed at 97 kg. Thomas will wrestle in the 125-kg heavyweight class.

Preliminary rounds begin at 11 a.m. Saturday. The tournament will be broadcast on FloWrestling.
