Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett will not start in the Panthers game against Miami on Saturday due to the ankle injury he suffered against Boston College, Pittsburgh Sports Now has confirmed.
Pickett, Pitt’s senior quarterback, did not travel with the team to Florida. The news of his absence was first reported by Brett McMurphy of Stadium.
Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi did not commit to a backup for Pickett this week when asked.
Redshirt freshmen Davis Beville and Joey Yellen have both played in reserve capacities this season. Beville would be making his first start. Yellen started one game as a true freshman while at Arizona State in 2019.
Playing as backups this season, Yellen completed 2 of 3 passes for 19 yards, while Beville connected on 3 of 6 for 13 yards.
Pickett entered the game third in the nation in passing yards with 1,389 and tied for 15th in the country with eight passing touchdowns.
Pitt did not have any players that did not travel with the team because of COVID-19 protocols.
