Kenny Pickett will not play for the second straight week when Pitt hosts No. 3 Notre Dame at Heinz Field on Saturday, according to a report by Brett McMurphy of Stadium.
Pickett suffered a left ankle injury in Pitt’s Week 5 loss to Boston College, and had been considered doubtful to play against the Irish.
Redshirt freshman Joey Yellen will make his second straight start and the third start of his career in place of Pickett.
Even despite missing Pitt’s Week 6 loss to Miami, Pickett remains eighth in the NCAA in passing yards with 1,389 and his 136.2 passer rating is 14th amongst players with at least 100 attempts.
Yellen has played in three games this season for Pitt and started one. On the season, he’s 24 of 49 for 296 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, which is good for a 106.5 passer rating.
Yellen is 0-2 in his career as a starting quarterback. He started for Arizona State against USC in 2019 as a true freshman before starting last Saturday’s Pitt loss to Miami.
