The Pitt men’s soccer team is once again the No. 1 team in the country after taking care of business at Louisville on Friday.
The Panthers have now started the 2020 season with five straight victories, and are the No. 1 team in the nation in back-to-back weeks, following last week’s first top ranking in program history in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
Pitt is followed in the five-team poll by Wake Forest, Clemson, Kentucky and South Carolina.
Panthers head coach Jay Vidovich appeared on All-ACC on Monday night to talk about his team’s success thus far this season.
Pitt made quick work of the Cardinals on Friday, with Bryce Washington scoring in the ninth minute and Filip Mirkovic adding on just before the half. After an Elijah Amo goal for Louisville, Valentin Noel and Luke Mort scored in the final 30 minutes to pull the Panthers well clear of the now 1-4-1 Cardinals.
Pitt (5-0, 4-0) will finish its regular season with home contests against Notre Dame on Friday at 6 p.m. and then against Syracuse on Nov. 6. A victory over the Irish, who are 2-1 in league play, would secure the Panthers the top seed coming out of the North Region.
The 2020 ACC Tournament will begin with quarterfinals on Sunday, Nov. 15, semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 18 and the final on Sunday, Nov. 22. The entire tournament will take place in North Carolina.
