Pitt will host Gardner-Webb at Petersen Events Center on Dec. 12, the G-W athletic department announced in a press release on Wednesday.
The Runnin’ Bulldogs announced their entire adjusted non-conference schedule. The game against Gardner-Webb is just the second confirmed date for the Pitt basketball program this fall, joining a Dec. 9 trip to Northwestern in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
Gardner-Webb, in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, plays in the Big South Conference. This will be Pitt’s second matchup with the Runnin’ Bulldogs visiting Pitt in 2016. The Panthers won that matchup, 99-80.
In the preseason KenPom.com ratings released on Tuesday, Gardner-Webb is ranked No. 249. The Bulldogs will return senior guard Jaheam Cornwall from a starting lineup that went 16-16 last season and finishing in third place with an 11-7 record in Big South play.
Cornwall, a 6-foot Brooklyn native, averaged 13.1 points per game and shot 44.4% from 3-point range last season, which ended in a Big South semifinals loss to Winthrop.
