Decision day has arrived for the top prospect in the WPIAL’s Class of 2021.
Gateway 4-star safety Derrick Davis will make his much anticipated college decision this evening as he’ll decided between Penn State, Ohio State and LSU. PSN’s Alan Saunders will be with Davis in his hometown and you’ll be able to watch the announcement live on Pittsburgh Sports Now. We are expecting Davis to make his decision shortly after 4 PM.
When trying to forecast a favorite, it’s truly difficult because Davis really likes individual aspects of each program. Both Ohio State and LSU helped themselves as Davis and his family were able to make visits to Columbus and Baton Rouge over the last couple of weekends. The trip to Louisiana was eye-opening for Davis because it was his first time experiencing both the campus life and the everyday lifestyle/atmosphere in that state.
When breaking down the top selling points for each program:
Penn State: The relationship Davis has formed with Terry Smith and the entire Penn State staff along with the familiarity of James Franklin’s program. Penn State has done a solid job of recruiting WPIAL defensive backs and developing them into solid NFL prospects.
Ohio State: Like with Penn State, Ohio State has been recruiting Davis for years and he’s made numerous trips to Columbus to see the Ohio State program in person. The other huge draw is the national brand of Ohio State football, contending yearly for the National Championship and the number of recent defensive draft picks that they’ve developed.
LSU: They are the defending national champions and like Ohio State, are a national brand that puts their players in the league on a yearly basis. The other big draw is playing in the SEC, the top football conference in the country.
Will it be Penn State, Ohio State or LSU? We’ll find out tonight at 4 p.m. on Pittsburgh Sports Live.
I’ll save you some time Penn State.
He’s from Gateway they all go there.
Not if he wants to play for a National Championship! I love James Franklin, but I don’t think he will ever take PSU to the playoffs.
He’s an LSU lock
