Pitt Opens as Huge Underdog for Clemson Game

Published

on

Coming off their impressive win over Virginia Tech, Pitt has opened as a 26.5 point underdog against Clemson, according to odds released on Monday by BetOnline.ag.

The Panthers are 2-5 against the spread this season. They’ve covered their last two games, last weekend plus 6 vs. Virginia Tech and at Florida State, when they won by 14 as 1.5-point favorites. Pitt couldn’t cover as underdogs against Notre Dame and Miami, lost outright as favorites against Boston College and Miami, didn’t cover as a favorite against Syracuse, pushed against Louisville and had the opener against Austin Peay taken off the board.

Clemson is the No. 4 ranked team in the country but will not have played for three weeks. Their last game was a loss to now No. 2 Notre Dame, 47-40 at South Bend. This game will mark the return of Clemson quarterback and likely number one pick in the 2021 NFL Draft Trevor Lawrence, who’s been sideline because of testing positive for COVID-19.

Pitt and Clemson last met back on December 1 of 2018 in the ACC Championship Game where they defeated Pitt 42-10. The last meeting in Death Valley, back in 2016, was memorable as the Panthers shocked the college football world by beating the No. 2 Tigers 43-42, on a 48-yard field by Chris Blewitt. Clemson, lead by current Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, would go on to win the National Championship.

Looks to be about right, I’m not looking for them to win but they must be competitive and not be embarrassed like the ND performance.
