Duquesne Looking To Add Multiple Non-Conference Games

Published

on

The Duquesne men’s basketball team is back in Pittsburgh following a short stay in Louisville, Kentucky where they were able to compete in two non-conference games.

That number was supposed to be three, however their matchup against Winthrop on December 4 was cancelled out of pre-cautions due to COVID-19. Duquesne last played on December 2 and aren’t schedule to play against until A-10 conference play opens up against the Richmond Spiders on December 19.

Sixteen days of inactivity is not something Keith Dambrot wants so the basketball program has been actively seeking to add at least a couple games prior to the start of conference play.

Provided their COVID-19 situation allows them to play, Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned Duquesne is close to adding two games, one of which would be against a team with a quality KenPom Rating.

Duquesne's 2024 March Madness Tournament coverage is sponsored by Leon's Billiards & More, Moon Golf Club and Archie's on Carson! Their contributions have allowed us to cover the Dukes run in Omaha, Nebraska. We appreciate their support!

The Dukes could be close to adding games against Loyola, Illinois and Southern Illinois, which would be played in Indianapolis. The dates for those games would be on December 14 and December 16.

Loyola, Illinois is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference and is currently ranked #55 by the KenPom Ratings. Last season, they finished with a record of 21-11 and ranked #101, six spots behind Duquesne. The other game would be against Southern Illinois, which is currently 2-0 with a rating of #188. Duquesne is currently rated #84 by  KenPom.

Once again, these games aren’t official yet but could be announced in the days ahead depending on the health situation of all three teams.
