Pitt ranks 10th with NFL Draft selections

The postseason awards continue to roll in for two Pitt Panthers seniors and the latest awards are big ones.

Defensive ends Rashad Weaver and Patrick Jones II were selected on Monday to the Associated Press All-American teams. Weaver was named to the first-team defense while Jones was second-team defensive end.

For the 2020, Weaver collected 35 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, 12 quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Jones ended the season with 44 tackles, 13 for loss, nine sacks, five quarterback hurries, three pass breakups and a fumble recovery.

Both Weaver and Jones were candidates for the Bednarik Award as the defensive player of the year and are both projected to be high picks in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The last Pitt Associated Press All-American was Quadree Henderson as second-team kick returner in 2016, while defensive tackle Aaron Donald was the last Pitt AP first-team All-American. Pitt’s last defensive end to be an AP All-American was Hugh Green.
