A.J. Davis has decided he wants to spend another season with the Pitt Panthers.
Pittsburgh Sports Now has confirmed that the senior running back from Lakeland, Florida will return to Pitt and will take advantage of the extra year offered by the NCAA.
Davis arrived at Pitt as a 4-star running back and at times, has shown flashes of being the featured back that the Panthers offense so desperately needs. The last three seasons, Davis has averaged over four yards per carry but injuries have set him back and prevented him from being on the field.
Last season, Davis best game came against Virginia Tech, as he carried the ball 12 times for 80 yards and a touchdown. His most productive season was in 2019 when he rushed 127 times for 530 yards (4.2 yards per carry) and 4 touchdowns, while also catching 23 passes for 269 yards (11.7 yards per catch).
This news means that Pitt will return their entire running back depth chart from 2020 (Vincent Davis, Todd Sibley, Daniel Carter, Israel Abanikanda) plus will add incoming freshman Malik Newton and Rodney Hammond.
