After de-committing from Creighton earlier in the week, top-30 prospect TyTy Washington has heard from a long list of high major schools, including Pitt.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard plays for Compass Prep, a prep school in Arizona that competes in the Grind Session League, a winter circuit featuring some of the top prospects in the nation year in and year out. Washington was selected as this year’s Grind Session MVP after leading his team to a championship victory. In the tournament, Washington averaged 20.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and five assists per game for Compass Prep.
While he has shown he can run the point position, Washington is also listed as a combo guard on multiple scouting reports. He is a physical, tough player who also possesses the vision to run the show and set up his teammates. The Arizona native showcased his vision and playmaking abilities in the video below, which shows Washington setting up his teammate for a game winner in the championship game of the Grind Session.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Washington is ranked as the No. 30 overall prospect in the nation in the class of 2021. Prior to committing to Creighton, he held offers from almost every major conference in division one, including ACC program Virginia Tech. Now that he has de-committed, he has heard from a hefty number of schools trying to lock up a late 2021 commitment.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, Washington has heard from Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, Washington, Pitt, South Carolina, Colorado, Maryland, Georgetown, Stanford, Arizona, Arizona State, UNLV, Nebraska and Minnesota, per his coach Pete Kaffey.
While it is unclear how much of a chance Pitt has in this one, it will undoubtedly be tough to compete with the blue bloods on the list that are also recruiting him.
Zero chance when you gonna realize pitt isnt getting high end recruits like Washington,
Is Capel that bad that he’s chasing players away? Hey Heather I think it’s time for a sit down.
I hope other people beside coaching staff are having interviews with these kids on WHY the are leaving.
