The University of Pittsburgh wrestling program had a historic showing at the 2021 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at Enterprise Center in St. Louis Missouri, March 18-20. The five Pitt wrestlers certainly performed best when the lights were brightest.
In St. Louis, Pitt had two NCAA finalists for the first time since 1963, both Jake Wentzel (165) and Nino Bonaccorsi (197) earned runner-up finishes at their respective weights. As such, both grapplers earned Office Depot/Supra Student-Athletes of the Week honors for their efforts on the mat.

As a team, Pitt took 11th place with 40.5 points. This is Pitt’s best NCAA finish since 1970 – when it took eighth – and tallied the Panthers’ best points total under the NCAA’s current team scoring format.
