Franklin Regional Alum Spencer Lee Wins Hodge Trophy for Second Straight Season

Franklin Regional alum Spencer Lee has won the prestigious Dan Hodge Trophy as the most dominant collegiate wrestler in the country for the second season in a row.

Lee finished the 2021 season with a 12-0 record for the Iowa Hawkeyes and finished this month with his third NCAA title at 125 pounds.

Lee finished his national title while wrestling with a torn ACL, an injury that has caused him to withdraw from the US Olympic Trials. Iowa also won the team title.

This season, Lee shared the award as a co-winner along with Minnesota heavyweight Gable Stevenson, just the second time the Hodge committee has split its award. The trophy is voted on by a panel of former winners, retired coaches and national media members.

Lee is one of just five individuals to win the trophy more than once.
