Pitt Reaches Out to Indiana Transfer, Former 5-Star Recruit Khristian Lander

From the day he was hired, Jeff Capel has not been hesitant about trying to recruit top level talent to Pitt.

While he hasn’t hit on most of the bigger players that he and his staff have targeted, it hasn’t been because of a lack of effort. Capel has made his reputation in college because of his ability to recruit and it seems like just a matter of time before he lands that real big player that will jump start the Panthers recruiting and program.

Last recruiting class, Pitt attempted to land point guard Kristian Lander but were unsuccessful as he decided to stay home and play for the Indiana Hoosiers.

Pitt once again has a chance to go after this elite talent after Lander has decided to enter the Transfer Portal following the firing of former Hoosiers head coach Archie Miller.

Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned that Pitt reached out to Lander on Tuesday and have started to process of trying to once again recruit him. PSN is told that Pitt passed some information along to Lander and that there hasn’t been a whole lot of conversation with Pitt or any other program to this point. There’s a long list of programs lining up, so it definitely won’t be easy but Capel is giving it another shot.

Lander (6’2″, 180) was a 5-star recruit and rated by 247Sports as one of the top 20 overall players in the Class of 2020. This past season at Indiana, Lander played in 26 games and averaged 10.2 minutes and 2.1 points per game.
