Pitt BB Recruiting

2021 5-Star Center Efton Reid Sets Decision Date

Is Jeff Capel going to land the marquee and possible program changing player that he’s been recruiting since arriving at Pitt?

The player that’s clearly in the spotlight now is 2021 5-star center Efton Reid.

Capel and the rest of the country will find out soon because Reid has announced that he’ll announce his much anticipated decision on Thursday, April 15.

Reid (7’1”, 235) is rated as one of the Top 20 players in the country and someone that’s kept his recruitment fairly under wraps. Despite being one of the top big men, Reid hasn’t made his recruitment public by announcing any favorites.

Reid is talented enough that PSN was told for months that he was leaning towards going directly to the NBA but that’s not going to be the case with his announcement in 12 days.

While no favorites have been publicly revealed, PSN has been told for some time that three teams very high on Reid’s list were Pitt, Ohio State and Virginia.

Last week, Rivals Jamie Shaw created a buzz when he announced that he was forecasting Reid to commit to Pitt. Following that tweet from Shaw, a basketball insider told PSN that he was “very hopeful and optimistic” that Reid was coming to Pitt.

PSN has reached out to Reid and family members to get more insight but haven’t been successful.

Reid would bring Capel the dominant front court presence on offense and defense that he’s been searching for.

The Efton Reid Watch has officially begun.

Is this realistic? Or are we just setting ourselves up for disappointment?

Capel hasn’t landed anybody for 2021/2022. You do the math…

Sibande and Odukale playing like they did the last three games, Jeffress in year 2, the rest of the guys a year later… I do think so. With Champagnie, no doubt.

They’ll lose early in the tourney even if, by some miracle, he chooses Pitt.
