Northwood University, a Division II school, has hired former Pitt graduate assistant Michael Priefer Jr. as a linebacker coach and special teams coordinator, Northwood announced Wednesday afternoon.

Priefer was a defensive graduate assistant at Pitt for two seasons after serving as a special teams graduate assistant at Minnesota in 2018. He played cornerback at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (Division III), where he lettered both as a defensive back and returner.

Priefer’s father, Mike Sr., is the special teams coordinator of the Cleveland Browns. He stepped in for the Browns as head coach in their playoff victory against the Steelers this past season when head coach Kevin Stefanski tested positive for COVID.

Northwood is set to play their first football game in nearly two years on September 2.
