Central Catholic freshman linebacker Anthony Speca is officially a national recruit.
The talented six-foot-three middle linebacker received word on Friday that he’d earned a scholarship from Notre Dame. Two weeks ago, Speca picked up his first D-I offer from his hometown school, the Pitt Panthers. When observing Speca’s on-the field talent combined with his academics, these early offers from Pitt and Notre Dame are just the beginning.
Pittsburgh Sports Now caught up with Speca following his big news to get his reaction to getting an offer as a freshman from one of the most storied programs in college football.
“The offer felt unreal, especially with Notre Dame being such a strong program,” said Speca. The offer honestly means a lot to me. When a school like Notre Dame recognizes me and feels that I have potential to play for their programs, it’s crazy and an unimaginable feeling. I have guys around me like Donovan Hinish and Ta’Mere Robinson, who I consider to be close friends, and they have offers from Notre Dame. I know they haven’t stopped working and neither will I.”
Hinish is a 2022 3-star defensive tackle from Central Catholic and Robinson is a 2023 4-star athlete from Brashear High School. Both of them also hold offers from Pitt.
