Pitt Officially Signs Transfer Guard Jamarius Burton

On Friday afternoon, Pitt announced that incoming transfer guard Jamarius Burton had officially signed with the program.

“Jamarius is a gritty, hard-nosed guard with the strength and athleticism to impact the game on both ends of the floor,” head coach Jeff Capel said on Burton. “With his size, versatility and toughness, he fits in nicely with the roster we are building. He has the ability to provide veteran leadership and we are excited about the winning mentality he brings to the program.”

When he committed to Pitt on Wednesday, Burton became the third addition of the offseason for the Panthers, alongside former Oakland wing Dan Oladapo and incoming freshman Nate Santos.

In one season at Texas Tech, Burton averaged 4.3 points, 1.2 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game. Prior to his time at Texas Tech, he played a bigger role for Wichita State, averaging 10.3 points, 3.4 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game.

“From a basketball standpoint, I am looking forward to developing and learning from Coach Capel, because he played my position at the highest level, so just learning from him,” Burton told Pittsburgh Sports Now shortly after his commitment. “And then winning. That is the most important thing, winning, and I look forward to winning with them.”
