It appears that Jeff Capel isn’t finished trying to add guards to his teams roster.
Coastal Carolina guard DeVante’ Jones, who was the Sun Belt Player of the Year, tells Pittsburgh Sports Now that he’s been in contact with the Pitt coaching staff. Back on April 20, Jones decided to put his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal, along with entering his name into the NBA Draft.
Jones has been one of the best mid-major players in the country for the last couple of seasons. Last season, he was named Sun Belt Player of the Year after averaging 19.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.8 steals per game. During his sophomore campagin, Jones was named to the All-Sun Belt 2nd Team and was named Freshman of the Year in 2018-19.
The 6’1″, 200 pound guard will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
With his impressive resume, it’s surprising Jones is in high demand. The New Orleans native has heard from Baylor, Texas, Memphis, Michigan, Mississippi State, Texas Tech, Kansas, TCU, Georgia, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, St. John’s, Cincinnati, Marquette, Oregon State and Wake Forest.
