Rodney Gallagher wasn’t the only point guard that made an unofficial visit to Pitt on Tuesday.

On the first day of the opening of college recruiting visits, 2022 3-star point guard Sean Jones from Gahanna Lincoln High School in Columbus, Ohio made his first trip ever to the University of Pittsburgh basketball program.

Jones (5-foot-10, 170-pounds) is rated by 247 Sports as one of the Top 170 overall players in the Class of 2022 and the No. 6 ranked prospect in the state of Ohio. Currently, Jones holds offers from Pitt, Marquette, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, Kansas State, VCU, Xavier, Duquesne, Houston, Mississippi State, Penn State, SMU and Wichita State.

Following his photoshoot and the end of his visit, Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke with Jones as he made the drive back to Ohio.

“The Pitt coaches put together a great tour for me,” Jones told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “They really touched on everything and I met with everyone at the school except for the academic advisors today. I had a great time riding around the campus and seeing a lot of the historical stuff about the University of Pittsburgh like the Cathedral of Learning. They showed me a lot of stuff that I didn’t know before getting there so I felt that the visit was very helpful. The facilities were also really, really nice. Very colorful.”

This initial trip to Pitt was also beneficial to Jones because for the first time he got to meet and speak to Jeff Capel in person, which was a highlight of his trip.

“He was a great guy, a real down to earth dude. Coach Capel had a lot of interesting things to say and you can tell right away that he’s very knowledgeable about basketball. Coach told me that he wants to bring in a guard that plays with a chip on his shoulder and thinks that’s me. He wants to bring in a guard that’s capable of having an immediate impact on the court.”

“I’m a guy that’s going to bring in energy to a program and that can make people around them better,” said Jones. “I’m also a guy that can score as well. I’m going to be a leader and someone that represents the schools well off the court as well.”

With his first visit out of the way, Jones tells PSN that he’ll be in Morgantown next to visit West Virginia on June 5 and then will make official visits to both Xavier and Virginia. As far as Pitt goes, this won’t be the last time Jones will make the drive to Pittsburgh.

“Today was just a very good day and a very good tour that they provided to us today. I don’t know the exact date, but I’ll be coming back for an official visit.”
