In his senior season with Wando High School in 2020, the 6-foot Vardzel totaled 34 catches for 571 yards and four touchdowns in seven games and added 92 yards as a kick returner.

Vardzel’s oldest brother, Michael, played receiver at Pitt from 2016-19 and is now an offensive quality control coach at Wofford. His other brother, John, who transferred from Wando to North Allegheny for his senior season of high school, walked onto the football program at Pitt during training camp in 2018, and was awarded a scholarship in 2020. He is currently a redshirt junior and has played in 21 games with the Panthers.
